Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes spent Monday night in a Sydney emergency room after he was rushed to hospital by his wife Jane.

The 64-year-old singer took to social media to share the news with his fans after he suffered from a mystery illness.

Posting a photograph of himself dressed in a white gown in a hospital bed at St Vincent's Hospital, the Cold Chisel frontman revealed: "I spent last night in ER at St Vincent Hospital and I want to thank the amazing staff who took care of me.

"This song (see next post) is for them and my best friend @jane13barnes who dashed me there and stayed by my side. We'll all get by with a little help from our friends."

The rocker then shared a video - in which he was joined by his wife Jane Barnes, daughter Elly-May and grandson Dylan - of him singing The Beatles classic 'With A Little Help From My Friends'.

"I had an unexpected visit to St Vincent's emergency last night," the singer said in the clip. "Non-COVID related by the way. But we were well looked after by our mates, doctors and nurses and staff at St Vinnies."

Following the post, concerned fans flocked to Twitter to share their well-wishes for the star.

Barnes has been delighting thousands of fans through Australia's isolation with a nightly performance from their family home in Berrima.

Get well soon Jimmy!
