Coronavirus: New Zealand has 134 confirmed new cases of COVID-19

Today New Zealand has 134 new cases of Covid-19 in the community, reports the Ministry of Health.

Of today's new cases, 116 are in Auckland, one is in Northland, nine are in the Bay of Plenty and eight are in Waikato.

There are also two additional cases in the Nelson-Tasman region. This brings the number of cases in the region to three. Due to a technical error, these three confirmed cases in Nelson-Tasman will be officially included in the figures tomorrow.  

The total number of cases in this outbreak is now 8,431.

To date, a total of 2,579 cases from this outbreak are now reported as having recovered from Covid-19.

The total number of cases in Auckland this outbreak is 7,774 (2,308 of whom have recovered), 449 in Waikato (185 of whom have recovered), 18 in Wellington (17 of whom have recovered), 83 cases in Northland (54 of whom have recovered), nine cases in Canterbury (four of whom have recovered), 26 cases in the Lakes District (three of whom have recovered), five cases in MidCentral (one of who has recovered), 57 active cases in Bay of Plenty, one active case in Hawke's Bay, three active cases in Wairarapa and three in Nelson-Tasman.

There are 89 people in hospital, including nine patients in intensive care.

To date, 92% of New Zealanders have had their first dose and 86% are fully vaccinated.

Auckland is currently at alert level 3 step 2.

The rest of the country is at alert level 2.

New Zealand will move to the new traffic light system at 11.59 on Thursday 2 December, with Auckland, Northland, Taupō and Rotorua Lakes Districts, Kawerau, Whakatane, Ōpōtiki Districts, Gisborne District, Wairoa District, Rangitikei, Whanganui and Ruapehu Districts moving to red.

The rest of the North Island and the whole of the South Island will go to orange.

All businesses, including cafes and restaurants, will be able to open again once in the traffic light system with the use of vaccine certificates.

New Zealand has had 11,206 confirmed cases since the pandemic began last year and 43 deaths.
