Coronavirus: New Zealand has had another death linked to coronavirus

Sadly, New Zealand has had another coronavirus-related death.

The death is of a woman in her 70s from St Margaret's rest home in Te Atutu.

She died yesterday and had underlying conditions.

This brings the death toll to 13, including seven from the Rosewood cluster.

Today New Zealand has 5 new cases of COVID-19 - bringing the total number of cases in New Zealand to 1,445, says Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield.

There are 2 new confirmed cases and 3 probable cases today.

There are 12 people in hospital, including three in ICU.

The number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 is up to 1,006 - up 32 on yesterday's number.

The number of new cases has been on a declining trend for the last two weeks despite an increase in the number of tests.

For the thirteenth day in a row, more people have recovered from coronavirus than having tested positive.

Today's update comes after it was announced a 49-year-old New Zealand man passed away from COVID-19 in Peru, after he failed to board mercy the flight home.

The Government yesterday announced the country would be lifted out of lockdown and move into alert level 3 at 11.59pm on Monday, April 27.
