Coronavirus: New Zealand has six new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today

Today New Zealand has four new confirmed cases of COVID in the community and two in managed isolation, the Ministry of Health has reported.

The community cases are linked to the current South Auckland cluster.

The two MIQ cases are a man in his 20s and a woman in her late teens who arrived on the same flight from the Philippines.

There are four people in hospital, including two patients in intensive care.

There is one previously reported case who is considered to have recovered today.

That brings the total number of active cases to 123 in New Zealand, with 80 in the community.

The total number of confirmed cases in New Zealand since the pandemic began is 1,431.

The Covid-19 death toll reached 24 on Friday, with the death of a man in his 50s and 85-year-old former Cook Islands' Prime Minister Dr Joe Williams.

Auckland is at alert level 2.5 while the rest of the country is at level 2 until 11.59pm on September 16.

Gatherings for Aucklanders are restricted to 10 people at level 2, while a 50-person limit is in place for funerals and tangi.
