Coronavirus: New Zealand has two new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today

Today New Zealand has two new confirmed case of COVID-19 - taking the total number of cases in New Zealand to 1,494, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

One of the confirmed cases today is linked to the St Margaret's Hospital & Rest Home in Auckland.

The second is a person who has travelled back from overseas, so is an imported case.

The total of confirmed cases is 1,144.

There are no new deaths today.

The death toll remains at 21, including 12 from the Rosewood cluster.

There are two people in hospital, none of whom are in ICU.

The number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 is up to 1,368 - up 21 on yesterday's number.

This means 92 per cent of all confirmed and probable cases are now recovered.

Cabinet will decide tomorrow whether the country is ready to move to alert level 2, based on the advice of Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield.

Bloomfield said on Friday he would need the latest data before providing advice, but for the moment the signs were good and there was still no indication of widespread community transmission.
