Earlier this week, Sir Elton John and David Furnish celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary.

And to mark their milestone, Furnish shared a rare picture from their wedding ceremony with his fans.

Taking to Instagram, the 58-year-old posted two pictures; one showing them smiling to photographers at Windsor's town hall on 21 December 2005, where they entered into a civil partnership, and a second, showing them walking down the altar at their wedding ceremony in 2014, when they formally converted their civil partnership into a marriage.

Alongside the snaps, the filmmaker wrote: "I can't believe that 15 years has passed since @eltonjohn and I celebrated our Civil Partnership in Britain.

"What a wonderful day that was. 6 years ago, we renewed our vows and got legally married in front of our two beautiful sons. This type of civil progress was unimaginable when I was growing up.

"Yet despite all this extraordinary positive change, I remind myself that it's still illegal to be LGBT+ in 70 countries, and that you can be given the death penalty in 12 of those same countries.

"Through our work with the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Elton and I pledge to continue the fight for equality for our LGBT+ brothers and sisters around the world," he added.

John also marked the occasion on his own Instagram page by sharing a photo from the day they entered their civil partnership.

The 73-year-old singer shared some very sweet words alongside it, writing: "Today @davidfurnish and I are celebrating two anniversaries: 15 years of Civil Partnership and 6 years of marriage.

"Our relationship gets stronger every day, and I am extremely grateful for the love we share and our two beautiful sons.

"However, we are the lucky ones, as millions of gay people throughout the world are discriminated against because of their sexuality. This is a disgrace."

He continued: "We all deserve to love who we want. We will continue to fight for equality for all. @ejaf."

The 'Rocket Man' hitmaker and Furnish's relationship began in 1993. The singer later proposed to him at a dinner party in May 2005, before they officially tied the knot at their Windsor estate in Berkshire in 2014.

The happy couple share two sons together named Zachary and Elijah, who were born via surrogacy.
