Defending champion Tom Walsh has claimed his second straight shot put gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, essentially sealing victory with his first throw before applying an exclamation mark with his last.

Walsh opened the competition at Alexander Stadium with a commanding effort of 21.98m, which surpassed the personal-best distances of everyone else in the field, and finished it off with a 22.26m flourish.

The 30-year-old was joined on the podium by compatriot Jacko Gill, who won his first medal at a major championship by seizing silver with a new personal best of 21.90m.

The Kiwi pair produced 12 of the top 13 throws of the competition.

Meanwhile, Kiwi wrestler Tayla Ford has won her second Commonwealth Games medal.

It was all over inside 40 seconds as the Cantabrian threw Amylee Sephora of Mauritius to the ground, to add a second Commonwealth bronze medal to her collection, having also won bronze in Glasgow eight years ago.

It was also New Zealand's first wrestling medal of the 2022 Games.

New Zealand also beat the Cook Islands in the women’s triples lawn bowls bronze medal match.

Skip Val Smith and team-mates Tayla Bruce and Nicole Toomey have claimed their second medal of the Games after winning 26-7.

They already have bronze medals from the women’s fours.

Congratulations to all our athletes!
