The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have always been conscious of the Queen's wishes that royal family members avoid public displays of affection.

But this week, they surprised royal fans by releasing two new intimate portraits of themselves sharing the rare moment of affection behind-the-scenes at the Earthshot Prize awards.

Looking more in love than ever, Prince William and Kate Middleton took to Instagram to share a series of black and white photos taken by royal photographer Chris Jackson with their 13 million followers.

In the first photo, the couple can be seen laughing as they lovingly look into each other's eyes.

While another photo shows Kate tenderly embracing her husband by resting her hand on William's lower back as they share a romantic moment.

The third photo shows the pair reflecting before they head on stage to give their speeches about looking after the environment for coming generations.

Alongside the images they wrote: "Behind the scenes at the first ever @EarthshotPrize Awards 📸 @chrisjacksongetty for The Royal Foundation."

And the very rare insight into their lives went down a real treat with fans, as plenty of royal well-wishers took to the comments section to share their love for the pair.
