Since Princess Diana's death in 1997, Prince William has continued her legacy by working with various charities.

And now the Duke of Cambridge has revealed he has been secretly volunteering to assist people struggling with mental health issues during the coronavirus lockdown.

The father-of-three has been volunteering with Shout, the United Kingdom's first 24/7 crisis text line that launched in May 2019 by William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

"I'm going to share a little secret with you guys, I'm actually on the platform volunteering," William told Shout team members during a video call.

The royal is one of more than 2,000 crisis volunteers who are trained to support anyone, anytime, whatever their crisis may be.

The 37-year-old has been vocal in the past about mental health.

In January, he narrated a one-minute video encouraging millions of soccer fans to think about their mental health.

In addition to William volunteering with Shout, the Cambridge's have been playing their own part in the national volunteering effort by delivering homemade pasta to their elderly neighbours.

They have also taken part in the weekly "Clap for Carers" campaign to support frontline workers.
