Blue’s Clues was one of the most popular children's shows on Nickelodeon throughout its decade-long run from 1996 to 2006 - and for a majority of that time was fronted by Steve Burns.

He wore a striped green shirt and solved puzzles with the help of his blue dog, but have you ever wondered what happened to Steve?

After hosting the children's show for 6 years, Steve - who became a major celebrity among the younger crowds and was even nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 2001 - abruptly left the show to "go to college".

Almost instantly, rumours began circulating on the internet about his "death".

But in a recently released video clip, Steve spoke out about what it was like being the victim of a death hoax, why he really quit the show and also shared what he has been up to for the last 17 years.

And now, it has been announced Nickelodeon has rebooted the series – but with a whole new host.

Filipino-American Broadway star, Josh Dela Cruz is breathing new life into the show, which is now called Blue’s Clues and You and features musical numbers.

In fact, Josh – who served as an understudy for Aladdin in the Broadway production – can REALLY sing!

Even Steve has even given Josh his seal of approval.

"I had the great honour of being a part of the search for the new host, and I give Josh two thumbs up! He can definitely fill my shoes, and the rugby shirt," he said in a press release.

Blue’s Clues and You - which is set to be released later this year - will see the return some of the show’s original characters including, Magenta and the Felt Friends.

Fans of the show took to social media to share their delight at the remake after the first teaser for the show was unveiled.

"I'm crying tears of joy, this is so cute!" one person wrote. "I cannot wait for the show to air, because the original show was my childhood! Ah feels!"

"This looks absolutely perfect," another added.
