Rod Stewart gets slammed for "awful" live performance at the Royal Variety show

An array of famous faces performance at the Royal Variety show on Sunday evening, but it was Sir Rod Stewart who apparently stole the show for all the wrong reasons after performing his new single, One More Time.

While the audience members applauded the legendary rocker as he took to the stage wearing a leopard print blazer, viewers took to Twitter to share their disappointment.

"Rod Stewart on the #RoyalVarietyPerformance is like the drunken grandad on Christmas night after a few shandys," wrote one viewer.

"Anyone else just had third party embarrassment watching Rod Stewart? Please call it a day Rod, please," added another.

A third tweeted: "After his Graham Norton appearance, you would of thought someone would of thought nope maybe not Rod?"

Another viewer said: "Rod Stewart on Royal Variety Performance, simply awful."

"Rod Stewart was like someone's nan doing bad karaoke," stated a fifth.

This year marked the 109th event, making it the world's longest-running entertainment show.

Performing for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this year included performances from Ed Sheeran, the cast of Matilda The Musical, Anne-Marie, Years and Years, the cast of Cirque du Soleil, James Blunt the cast of Moulin Rouge The Musical and Elvis Costello.
