Bestselling royal author Lady Colin Campbell has taken a swipe at Meghan Markle.

Speaking to new! magazine, the Jamaican-born socialite, who was a confidante of Princess Diana and still has close royal connections, believes Diana would not have been "ecstatic" about her new daughter-in-law and that the two women may have clashed.

However, the 69-year-old - who has published three books about the British royal family, including a biography on the late princess - added that Diana would have "lived with" whatever made her children happy.

"I think Meghan and Diana are sufficiently similar personalities for there to have been the potential for conflict," Lady Colin explained.

"They have very similar personalities, which would make me believe trouble may well have brewed down the line."

She then claimed the Duchess of Sussex "wanted to become a princess" and "sought it out".

"I hope she fulfils the tremendous expectations," she said.

"They want perpetual stardom scripted by themselves. With some, it works well, with others the results are more mixed. Let's say the jury's out."

Lady Colin's latest comments come after she claimed Meghan has "considerably changed" Harry earlier this year.

So what about the Duchess of Cambridge?

Apparently, Diana would have approved "wholeheartedly" of Prince William's wife before commending her on doing a "superb" job, which "can't be faulted in her performance or demeanour".
