Over the past couple of years, a flurry of British tabloids have been reporting that Prince William and Kate Middleton don't get on with their sister-in-law Meghan Markle.

And now royal watchers believe they have "proof" of the alleged feud.

As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stepped out together to join the Queen at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey, video footage captured a rather awkward encounter between the couples.

The event marked the first time Prince Harry and his wife had reunited with other members of the royal family since announcing their decision to walk away from the monarchy.

Harry and Meghan were shown to their seats at the church ahead of William and Kate's arrival and were already seated when the Cambridge's arrived.

As the future King and his wife took their seats, Meghan could be seen mouthing "hi" and gave a small wave to the couple.

Harry also greeted his brother and sister-in-law by saying "hello" and smiling.

But the Cambridge's appeared to barely acknowledge Meghan and Harry, only giving them a slight nod before greeting Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex.

The encounter prompted Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan to hit out at the royal brothers.

He said: "Not even a handshake between the brothers. Extraordinary.

"Diana would have hated this feud."

Royal fans also agreed the exchange appeared cold.

One person wrote: "Okay even I have to admit that looks cold."

Another said: "OMG look at this! That looks like a blatant snub by William and Kate."

The service marked the last joint appearance the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be making before starting fresh in Canada, where they aim to become "financially independent".

The Sussexes will close their Buckingham Palace office on April 1 before heading back to Canada, where they wish to raise Archie away from the spotlight.

Within the next few weeks, a new title for their official Instagram account and their upcoming nonprofit organisation is expected to be announced.
