Sir Rod Stewart has been left heartbroken after his brother Bob passed away, just two months after he lost his other sibling Don.

The 'Maggie May' singer took to Instagram to tell fans with "great sadness" that the 88-year-old passed away on Tuesday night.

Alongside an image of a flame against an all-black background with the words 'Rest In Peace', the music legend wrote: "It's with great sadness that I announce the loss of my brother Bob last night, who joins my brother Don on the great football pitch in the sky.

"I’ve lost two of my best mates in the space of two months."

He added: "RIP Don and Bob ‘irreplaceable buddies’ Sir Rod Stewart 🙏🏼."

In September, Stewart revealed that his brother Don had died within days of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, at the age of 94.

Rod was the youngest of five children of Robert Stewart and Elsie Gilbart, with his two brothers and two sisters being born in Scotland before the family moved to London, where he was born.

Rod's surviving siblings are his older sisters Peggy and Mary.
