It seems Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson are finally on the mend after testing positive for coronavirus.

The couple - who are currently in Australia to film the Elvis Presley biopic, in which Tom is set to play Presley's manager - announced two weeks ago that they had both tested positive for the wide-spreading disease.

And now the 63-year-old actor has shared an update on their health, while encouraging others to self isolate.

Taking to Twitter, Hanks wrote: "Hey, folks. Two weeks after our first symptoms and we feel better.

"Sheltering in place works like this: You don't give it to anyone - You don't get it from anyone.

"Common sense, no? Going to take awhile, but if we take care of each other, help where we can, and give up some comforts ... this, too, shall pass. We can figure this out. Hanx."

The update has come just days after Tom's sister Sandra Hanks Benoiton said the star is "not great, but still okay."

After speaking to her sibling, who is self-isolating from a rental home in Australia's Gold Coast, Sandra said: "I have communicated with my brother. He's not great, but still okay.

"[Am I] shocked? No. He's an actor, not a god [but] medical care in Australia is good."

Sandra - who lives in Italy which has been badly affected by the virus, with nearly 3,000 dead in the country as a result - is currently on lockdown.
