The Best TripAdvisor Response From A Restaurant Ever?

Angry that no antiseptic wipes or discounts were forthcoming when a fellow diner was cut by a glass dropped by a waitress, the customer vented their fury online.

But Steve Bothwell, the owner of Café 52 in Aberdeen, hit back by claiming the person who complained on behalf of their colleague was drunk, had a ‘twisted sense of reality’ and felt his bottom shortly before leaving.

The hilarious exchange on TripAdvisor followed the group’s visit to the £21.30-a-head restaurant last month, and also saw the diner sarcastically praised for a ‘remarkably creative piece of writing’.

The customer, with the username 'injured2015', wrote on the popular reviews website on April 25, but they would not have expected the response given by Mr Bothwell, 43, which promised to ‘clarify the actual situation for the curious readers’.

The restaurant - which charges £21.30 for a three-course evening meal - has received an average rating from TripAdvisor customers of four stars for its food, value, service and atmosphere.

It is ranked just outside the top 10 per cent of the 492 restaurants in Aberdeen, and has been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for 'consistently earning great reviews'.

Among its main course are mussels with white wine, cream, red peppers, organic chives and bacon; and pan-fried breast of chicken with courgette, green beans and shiitake mushroom sauce.

The restaurant - which is open from 12pm to midnight Monday to Saturday, and 12pm to 4pm on Sunday - is now in its 20th year having been launched in 1995 by Mr Bothwell.
