A US police department in Massachusetts was left stumped after their Christmas charity toys kept going missing ...

That was until they found the furry culprit; the office dog.

Officers in Franklin had been collecting toys to hand over to the Santa Foundation, an organisation that donates presents to families in need during Christmas.

But the toys kept disappearing.

It wasn't long before Ben Franklin, the therapy dog who comforts children who are in crisis, was caught red-handed.

• Science has just proved dog owners are happier than cat owners ...

Snapped on camera, the footage shows him holding a toy baby in a carrier which he later hides under a desk where officers discovered the other toys.

Ben has since been banned from the collection room.
