Janet Waldo, best known as the voice of The Jetsons’ teenage daughter Judy, passed away on Sunday morning, aged 96.

The news was released to ABC News by her daughter Lucy Lee, who said her mother had been diagnosed with a benign but inoperable brain tumor five years ago.

The Jetsons ran from September 23, 1962, to March 17, 1963, then later in syndication, with new episodes added in 1985 to 1987.

In addition to her work as the animated teen of the future, Janet voiced a number of Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters, including the lead in The Perils Of Penelope Pitstop and Josie in Josie And The Pussycats.

She played a variety of roles in The Flintstones including Pearl Slaghoople, both in the original TV series and in the big screen spin-offs.

Janet also voiced Morticia Addams in a short-lived cartoon version of the TV series in 1973 and a character called Hogatha in The Smurfs during the 1980s, according to the BBC.

Janet was still working in her late 70s. One of her final roles was in 1998 in the adult animated TV series King Of The Hill, in which she guest starred as Mrs Tobbis in one episode.

Her last credited voice work came in 2000, when she reprised the ever youthful Penelope Pitstop in a Wacky Races video game at the ripe old age of 80.

Born in Washington in 1920, Janet began her career with an uncredited role in the 1938 film Cocoanut Grove, going on to do steady work in radio, according to Entertainment Weekly.

In 1952, she appeared in an episode of I Love Lucy and went on to make television appearances on programs including The Andy Griffith Show, Get Smart and Petticoat Junction before her highly successful move into animation.
