In some brain surgery procedures, patients are kept awake so that doctors can monitor brain activity.

This was the case for Brazilian bank worker and musician Anthony Kulkamp Dias, who earlier this week underwent surgery to remove a brain tumour.

And Dias wasn’t just awake for the procedure, he also played GUITAR!

Diaz serenaded his doctors with several Brazilian country songs, an original composition he wrote for his daughter, and a cover of The Beatles’ “Yesterday”.

“Cerebral monitoring [is] important to prevent injuries that occur in the sensory, motor and speech areas,” a spokesman from the Nossa Senhora da Conceição hospital in Santa Catarina told The Telegraph
