British department store John Lewis is famed for its Christmas adverts, and 2016's version carries on the retailer's tradition of heart-warming tales.

However, parents are fuming over the new ad, after having to explain to their children why Santa doesn't deliver the trampoline as a gift.

In the ad the little girl's dad can be seen building a trampoline before Christmas Day and putting a bow on it in the garden, resulting in everyone asking, 'Where is Santa Claus?'

Parents have now spoken out on Twitter revealing they've had to explain that Santa is real.

One wrote: "Lovely advert @ johnlewis but how do I explain to my kids that dad built the trampoline and not santa !!!"

A second added: "Can someone at John Lewis come and explain to my kids why the dad is putting up the trampoline and not ruined xmas for loads of children."

Another wrote: "Great new ad but how to explain to my kids that the dad is setting up trampoline. could ruin xmas for our house #johnlewis #bustertheboxer."

A spokeswoman for John Lewis told Mirror Celeb: "We're sure Father Christmas has also visited Bridget and Buster the night before, this is just an extra special gift from her parents because she loves to bounce."

Another social media user previously posted: "The John Lewis advert actually made me laugh this year. But so sad that they're sending out the message to kids that santa isn't real."
